My 3 months old Vostro 1400 has failing speakers. When I use them I hear increasing static and within a minute you can hear nothing but nasty white noise (Vista 32). Headphones work as they should though.

Is this a common problem? I really don't want to send in my computer because of this minor problem but it annoys me.

How long would I have to wait for it to return once I send it in (I currently live in Germany)?

Do I have to save my files before I send it in? Will they format the HD just to be sure or something?

    Thank you!

Since the problem lies within your speakers, you don't have to send in your HD. You can just remove it before you ship it to them. I got my laptop back from depot service (keyboard replacement) in less than three days, although I do live close to their depot center.

Thank you, that was really helpful. I guess I don't void the warranty by removing the HD as I don't open the computer as such. If this'll be under a week I might try it. Thanks again!
