Vostro 1400 hard drive light always blinking

    My Vostro 1400 with XP hard drive light, second from left on front of notebook, is always blinking and making a very soft beeping noise when it blinks. It does this all the time even when the notebook is not connected to the internet, virus and spyware shut down, no programs running. There is not any sequence to the blinks or beeps. The computer runs perfectly, no problems at all, beeping does get a bit annoying. Anyone know what this means?

    hmm, i don't have a beeping but i do have a blinking light that starts blinking once in a while. I don't think the beeping is related to the hard drive light.

    How many processes do you have running in the background?? have you checked in safe mode?? if you are unsure that the HDD is working fine run diagnostics on the HDD.

    mine constantly blinks too, I think it is normal for these vostros.

    Do you have Windows Search installed?

    Its probably indexing.

    No beeping with my notebook, but I get the constant blinking as well.
