Been out of the game for a while and have not really kept up the reading on my vostro 1400 that bought back in Nov of 2007.

It currently has the T5470 (1.6ghz) processor and looking to upgrade to get a bump in speed and I'm wondering what the processor support is like on this laptop. I have the A09 bios.
I was looking at the T7700...

But wondering if it supports Penryn..did a bit of research and found out that it does...but which penryn? There are the P series with 1066 bus and the T8xxx series with 800 bus...

    Thanks in advance.

You can use any Socket P processor with an 800MHz or slower bus, Penryns included. Probably not an extremes, though, as your cooling probably can't cope with it.

You should have no problem with the T7700. Make sure to update the BIOS.

No Vostro has a 1066 bus yet, so stick with the 800Mhz.
