On my Vostro 1400, under XP and Vista, regardless of which drivers I use, whenever i play games (mainly LOTRO) my GPU temp gets up to 93c (idles 60-65)

I know GPU's are designed to take a beating, but at what point should I be concerned?

The laptop itself doesn't even get warm - the bottom is cool to the touch, the keypad is slightly warmer than the other side of the notebook, and occasionally the fan pumps out warm air.

Any cause for concern? I'm tempted to try out that Copper Cooling mod on this notebook, but i've heard the difference isn't huge.

Get Dell to check it out first, if its still runs hot then do the copper mod.

I'm wondering ... if you're in the 90's (celcius) and your laptop isn't even warm to the touch, maybe your sensor is defective?

no its perfectly right i have a vostro 1310 temps are around 93C on stress tests like 3dmark 06 and ati tool artifact scan. The heat pipe design on the vostro smaller notebooks is sharing with the chipset, gpu and CPU i did the copper mod which took a while with a hacksaw and sand paper now my load temps while running apps like ati tool and 3dmark is around 83-85C depending on room temp.

I've just been on the phone to Dell tech support over the temps the GPU gets to in my Vostro 1310 - up to 102 degrees after running a game or benchmark software and thats with the latest A10 BIOS installed, and they're sending out an engineer to replace the graphics card, heatsink and fan assembly.

Interrogate the engineer about the whole Nvidia defect issue. Ask him if the replacement gpu isnt defective
