I own it. I bought it because I preferred a more business looking laptop to the m1330. And (at the time) I could get it for about $300 less than the m1330 for the same specs.

There's not a whole lot to say, though. The specs are pretty much equal to the m1330. The only thing that separates the two are build quality and design. I'll admit that the m1330 has a higher build quality and a flashier design (I don't like it a whole lot personally) but the Vostro 1310 isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination. Some people critisize it for the glossy lid but I like it. It's a strange sort of gloss paint that doesn't hold fingerprints as much as you'd think.

The battery life is nice with the 9 cell, adaquet gaming capabilities with the 8400M GS, and the weight/size is just right. The only bad things I can say is the integrated speaker sucks harder than usual on laptops (non issue for me) and the touchpad is the terrible alps as opposed to synaptic.

Anyway, I'd say go for it if the price is right.

I bought mine for much the same reason as Grog,it was on special and much cheaper than the M1330 at the time for an equivilent spec and I could get it with XP.

If I had to pay the price now thats almost the same as the M1330,I would get the XPS because you have a better LED screen option, better materials, slimmer and lighter again.

My trulife screen is pretty disappointing really, very washed out [LG brand screen] but everything else is pretty good......this is my first slot loading drive notebook and its great, easily the quietest drive I've had.

Its small,is cool to use on your lap....its fast....heck,it even plays Crysis on the lowest settings fluidly, the GPU does get pretty hot,but not as hot as some of the temps I've seen reported for the M1330.....and for normal use is not hot at all.

It is a bit plasticy compared to most of the newer dell notebooks that usually at least have a magnesium base, but its pretty sturdy really....has nice non-wobble screen hinges.

If a 13.3" notebook was going to be my only pc,I would get the XPS if you can afford it,I prefer the rear facing heat vents [the vostro is side exhausting] and would get the LED screen option.
But like Grog says.....if the price is right....the vostro is pretty good.

I agree with you on every point except one. My 1310 has a alps pad, and it's responsiveness is excellent. Frankly, I prefer the black glossy look to the customizable colours of the xps. Makes them look too much like toys in my opinion.
