How does one completely power off the Vostro 1000? When I hit the power button, it powers down but the battery light is still on. Really, I am not an idiot, but shouldn't that go off too? I don't want to power off, take my computer somewhere and there is no juice because the battery took over and ran down.

Yeah, that's what I would think. Does the battery light stay on continuously even after a few hours of being plugged in?

Are you sure you actually powered down? On a laptop, hitting the power button usually puts it to sleep or hibernate. You have to go to the Start Menu and hit Shut Down to actually power the unit off, or you can do a hard shutdown by holding down the power button for 10 seconds.

yes, what he says could be right, some models are configured to sleep or hibernate when the power button is pressed. try going to start>power>shutdown and see if its still the same

Thanks all! I have done the start>shut down thing but the battery light is still on. I will try holding the power button down for 10 seconds.

I suggest that you check through your "Adjust Power Properties" setting, make sure that the part relates to pressing power button is set correctly to prompt or completely shut down.
