Well when I started up my system all these icons were gone from the system tray. I went to properties and tried to click "show the icons all the time" but those three were grayed out. I restarted the system and the battery showed back up but the other two didnt. So, I restarted again, and now all three are gone again. I'm guessing the only option will be reinstall OS?

I assume the respective devices/control panel apps are still working.

I'm not sure what the problem is, but before re-installing the OS, I would see if there is a Microsoft Powertoy TweakUI for your OS. I've used this tool to recover UI stuff.

I searched microsoft powertoy TweakUI for Vista 64 and there were a lot of results from forums asking if microsoft will ever release them, so it doesn't look like that will work. What is all involved in doing a clean install of the OS? I don't have many files on it as the computer is less than a week old so it would be easy to back-up files.

This has happened to me before with the network icon disappearing. I dunno why this happens, but eventually they will come back (or in my case they did anyway).

Unless those icons are CRITICAL to you, I wouldn't go as far as a clean install.

    Sorry for the TweakUI chase.

Here's a thread I found: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/99008-notification-icons-reset.html. It suggests the issue can be fixed... or may eventually fix itself.

A clean install may be overkill for this issue, but see my clean install notes in sig below for tips.
