problem with vga connector on my dell d800. I would like to fix it myself . I have open it and found nothing obvious on the solder connection but there must be a weak solder somewhere because when I play with it connected it comes on sometimes. Anyone knows where to find schematic or details of the motherboard in order to know exactly which solder spot to redo :)

problem is probably not in the connection, but in the switch that is electronically activated via the F+? key combo. That function is likely a motherboard error and not something you can solder.

(ps, I am assuming you are activating the Fn+? key combo before trying the connection)

Good point. On the D800 you hold the FN key down and then toggle the F8 button to switch between display modes.

Are you in Windows and its going in and out, or does it just work intermittently?

I am in Windows and it works only when I push my cable upward when it is connected to the connector and tight with the screws. I don't assume then that it is the Fn switch.

I agree, or the cable itself.

Does your vga port have the two screws holding it in place?
