regarding it waking from sleep unexpectedly, check in your power options under "sleep":
    - disable wake timers

there may be scheduled tasks that you aren't aware of such as windows itself waking up to check for updates. and oddities like that. Disabling wake timers prevented my laptop waking up while in my bag.

In my BIOS I've also set it to not allow my USB devices to wake it from sleep

And in my device manager for my network adapters, I set mine NOT to wake my computer from sleep. Not even WOL magic packets.

Essentially I made my laptop to only wakeup by opening its lid or by pressing the power button.

It's not so much of an issue for me now that I'm currently not using the laptop, but thanks for the info. I think what eventually fixed it for me was the combination of BIOS update and mobo replacement, but maybe that would have helped.

I'm probably going to give Dell a call tomorrow just to check on the status of the replacement, as I still haven't heard anything from them.

    Update (Feb 3, 2017):
It has been two weeks since the last repair I had with the laptop, and I am still without any confirmation at all about a new one. The last time I called them was Jan 27, and they said I would get a confirmation the following Monday or Tuesday. This didn't happen, and thus, I resorted to using Dell's Twitter support. They told me that I could be getting a confirmation of a new laptop as soon as Wednesday, but two days later, I still have heard nothing. This is really starting to annoy me as I've not been able to use the laptop for two weeks now (I could, but I don't want to break it any more than it already is). What would be the best thing to do?

I would carry on using the problem computer (assuming it cooperates) until the replacement shows up.

    Many thanks!

Don't the Precisions come with a 3 year NBD warranty as standard?

I expect you won't get a response before Monday - it's the weekend now.

The 7000 series comes with 3-year NBD at minimum, but the 5000 series is configured with 1 year by default.

Then I did well when I bought my Outlet 5510 as 3 years NBD was included in the price. :)

Update: I've received an order number for a replacement, so it's time to wait for it. At the moment, it is stuck on "Order Received", so I don't know when it is going to reach its next stage, but at least it is sorted.

The warranty carries over from my previous 3 year Dell Outlet warranty, meaning I get warranty until Nov 2019. IMHO I think this is fair enough.
