Just purchased a refurb laptop from the Outlet, but the salesperson couldn't tell me exactly which parts came on it, like screen manufacturer, is the HDD a standard 500BG 5200rpm, or Hybrid/SSD, etc. I have the service tag and entered it on Dells site, used the "part numbers" for a few of the components, but none of them gave any results. Any ideas?

So ya, the Dell parts matrixes are super cryptic and not really meant for anything but a machine to read. Sometimes for parts like CPU, RAM, HDD, you can try to read the descriptors instead of trying to look up part numbers, but there probably isn't really a good answer.

Post your parts list and maybe someone can tell?

Cryptic for sure! Some I can figure out through the short description, some not. One thing I couldn't tell on was the HDD...is it the Hybrid SSD, or standard slow HDD? Here is an edited list...what does Mexico/Mexican mean?

    TPPXC 1 Module,Hard Drive,500,5.4,512E,KAH-SSH,E4

    Slow 500GB 5,400RPM HDD

512E just means advanced format (some advanced format stuff Dell started using, but has nothing to do with hybrid drive - hybrid with flash memory)

SSH could mean "Secure Shell" or Solid State Hybrid? Haha go figure man...

Looks like a conventional slow HDD. Just my thoughts

    Thanks Dellienware,
Bummer...I guess I'll know for sure when it arrives. Either way, I got lucky and hit the 20% coupon, so laptop with i7 2.7QM quad and all the fixins, + U2412M monitor is costing me only $50 more than the i7 3.0M dual core without the monitor that I just returned...only piece I gave up was the 750GB 7200 HDD, which eventually I was going to turn into a backup and replace with an SSD down the road

I know this is an old post, but in case this helps others the SSH is a truncated SSHD or Solid State Hybrid Drives. Mine is actually a Seagate ST500LM000 500GB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 2.5" Laptop SSHD -Bare Drive

The line item was Module,Hard Drive,500,5.4,512E,KAH-SSH. Translation 500 GB 5400 RPM drive SSHD

The drive will NOT benchmark as good as an SSD or even as good as a regular 7200 RPM drive, however the actual usable performance should be better than a 7200 RPM drive after the drives learning curve. The drive has some adaptive memory technology that learns what data to put in the SSD part and which part to store on the platters.
