    Try a SSD in the D630 perhaps? Just moving to a SSD will be responsible for most of the performance change between old and new, and you can buy a SSD on a free-standing basis. And even re-use the SSD in a future laptop or desktop.

    My D830s and D630 are SSD-equipped, and I am not exactly itching to buy anything newer. Especially for Linux, its hard to see much, if any benefit to newer.

    I agree. I am currently pricing some 500GB SSD's for use in my E6500. The price has finally hit what I would be willing to pay for such capacity in an SSD and by the time I finish saving for it, it will be even cheaper. Sucks having to pay bills, feed the kids, etc. when there is gear to be acquired.
