Upgrading the DGFF GPUs in the Precision 7530 & 7730

I found a good deal in China and the seller is willing to ship to UK. The price is 3680 RMB for the card and 200 RMB for shipping. (3880 RMB = 550 USD) I think it's quite a good deal and I'll buy that. I'm gonna return a week or two later.

 

That's a decent deal, compared to the $1100 that the eBay person was charging.

Nothing compared to the miracle that I got, however.

Imao 4000 dollars, come on now, LOL, the P53 is cheaper with the RTX 5000

 

Well, it's not just the GPU. People I know who have Razor laptops really love them. Must be other factors that are part of the pricing, but I haven't look closely yet.

 

Brand name, Razor laptops are infamous for overheating and throttling.
Be interesting to see how the RTX 5000 max-q will hold up in this chassis.
In the P53 its barely faster than RTX 4000 because of power limit.

You don't sound hopeful. Me, I don't know better.

 

It is the same in the Precision 7740. RTX 5000 is maybe 8% faster than RTX 4000. It should be more of a difference, but the power cap keeps the RTX 5000 from reaching its potential. It is capped at 110W but it really would be happier running at around 150W.
(Same last gen with P5200 vs P4200)
So, really the only reason to get one is if you can make use of the 16GB of vRAM, or you have applications that can make heavy use of the tensor and/or RT cores in the GPU (I don't think that it would throttle as hard if those cores were primarily the ones in use).

Obviously these cards won't work in a Precision, but the pricing was interesting to me. $1,039 for GeForce 2070 or $1,639 for GeForce 2080. With the Quadro RTX 5000 selling for $1,699 on eBay, the price doesn't seem that far off. (Though these do some with a new beefy heatsink as well, plus, in-home installation service.)

It would be cool if they also offered Precision GPU upgrade kits...

 

Could anybody confirm that except for the Assembly Heatsink,the other parts needed for the upgrade are common to both the 7730 and 7530?
Also is the kind of Aluminum foil around the card die mandatory to make the upgrade?
It is very likely that I will get an M7730 and make the upgrade.
