    Hi Guys,

I'm considering buying M6700 from Dell Outlet with i7-3720QM, Quadro K3000M and 1600x900 screen. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find M6700 with better screen for a good price. Do you think I will be able to upgrade screen myself? What parts would I need to order and where could I get them? I don't want IPS screen because I need optimus, but I do want the best non IPS screen avaliable.

If you're not upgrading to the IPS screen, all you need to do is replace the panel. The directions are in the service manual, which can be downloaded from the Dell support site.

I have the 1920x1080 FHD anti-glare non-IPS screen (and I think it's a great panel), the part number is VCV1F. Google reveals some places that you might find one. But really, any standard 17.3" panel should work if it has the right connector.

    Thanks, Aaron44126 .
How do you like your screen?
I believe some of the screens are better than others. What is the best optimus enabled screen I can go with? Is there a place I can see part numbers for others screens and reviews/feedback?

    Found that manual. http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/wsm6700/en/om/om_en.pdf
So all I need to do is remove display bezel and replace the panel? Page 29.
I feel confident with disassembling it doesn't look hard. But how do I know if connector is right prior to purchase? Maybe there is a list of compatible panels?
    Which one is better?

This is the best laptop panel that I've ever had, I'm quite satisfied with it. You could get slightly better color out of a glossy screen, but then you'd have the glare, which is a huge downside to me.

This is the best Optimus-compatible screen offered by Dell in the M6700.

If you're buying from eBay or similar, you should be careful. For instance, the first link you posted says that the screen is glossy which means that it is not VCV1F as that is part number for the anti-glare screen. It's probably compatible which is why they labeled it that way but it's not the same screen offered by Dell. It's possible that even if you find an anti-glare / matte screen labeled as VCV1F, you'll end up with a lower quality part. Unfortunately, I don't know of a good way to verify these parts before ordering.

You can always call Dell spare parts (800-372-3355) and see if they'll sell you one. Might cost a little more than eBay but it doesn't hurt to investigate in any case.

The X919N is glossy. Whether you want glossy or matte is up to your personal preference. M6600 displays should be compatible with M6700. He says the H8D3K is better than VCV1F so you can look into that one too, though my screen seems to have better specs than he reports.

Thank you very much for your help, Aaron44126!
BTW I am not going to do anything connected with professional graphics or super accurate colors. I just want to have best screen possible for gaming and browsing the web. Maybe I shouldn't get high color gamut screen?

If you can locate it, get the screen I have, it's the absolute best you can get below the IPS for the M6700. It's 90% gamut and it's absolutely stunning.

Which screen are you referring to?
I bring this up because I have an M6700 with the standard 1080 display, and I am actually disappointed in it. Its not very "sharp" and the colors are pretty blued-gamma'd out.
The m6500 seems to have a "sharper" screen and the color is better (although the color could probably be adjusted), and the viewing angles are better.
The M6700 RGB IPS screen has better color, but it even has inferior viewing angles to the m6500.

Besides the M6500 I have compared it to a Clevo P150em with the 95% gamut, which is vastly superior

The closest screen I can find in comparison is like that of the old G51jx-a1 or the N61-VX laptops of years ago.

Dell souces their lcds from multiple sources, so you may not have the same 1080p panel as others. Can you pull the manufacturer and panel number. Mine is a LG Phillips panel, but I've sen Dell put AUO and Chi Mei panels in their Precisions too.
