I bought a Dell D630.. I wanted to upgrade my hard drive from an 80 GB to a 160 GB. I'm not sure tho what exactly I should be looking for when purchasing a hard drive and how to install it.. is there a site that gives specific specs and instructions on how to upgrade the hard drive?

    Thanks!

I just did that I upgraded mine to a 250 gig hdd that I bought at Fry's (Western Digital for 129.00) and I bought the cloning software from Apricorn for 34.00 (Software is also for sale on the Dell site) evetything took me about 35 minutes and it went without a glitch. The software comes with easy to follow instructions.

    Good luck.

I bought a Samsung Spinpoint 320 Gb and downloaded the Acronis True Image trial software and cloned the old harddrive. It worked perfect.

I don't know where in the world you are but, I do most of my electronics/computer shopping at Fry's (I'm in Southern California) they have very good prices most of the time.........and with the 4th of July around the corner I'm sure they'll have lots of sales, but then everybody else will have tons of sales (including newegg).

Buy the biggest hard drive you can afford, you'll always need more and more and more space.

    Lates.

I ended up getting a seagate drive from newegg. How exactly do I boot up the computer on the new HD after I install it? I'm not sure if I wanna spend so much on disk cloning software.. is it possible to just install an os on the new drive?

You can try using the "recovery discs" that came with your laptop, just put the apropiate disc in the cd-rom and boot the computer.

    Later.

Since you got a Seagate drive you can get a free download of DiscWizard from their website. It is essentially True Image, version 10 I believe. Best of all it's free for those of us with Seagate or Maxtor dives.
