So I been looking at ways of updating the E6440's we have because it's 97WH battery option is unparalleled in newer Latitudes. The one thing I'd need to upgrade is the 1366x768 LCD Screen. However it looks like the 1080P screen has a 30 pin connector while the crappy 1366 X 768 screen in there now has a 40 pin. I see lots of adapters on Ebay but I want to make sure they work? Would I be able to buy a new 30 pin cable from Dell that runs from the board to the screen?

So my question is can I order the 1080P screen for the Dell E6440 and make it work? Anyone know?
This website here gives a good indication of the difference in the connectors.

    Hi OSihota,

    40-pin means LVDS
30-pin (with LED backlight) means eDP

Those are two substantially different signalling technologies and there is no direct way to adapt one to another passively. The adapters you are seeing on eBay are for adapting 30-pin CCFL laptops (old fluorescent back-light) to newer 40-pin LED back-lit screens. You would need an active (signal aware) converter to get a 30-pin eDP panel to launch. There are no such adapters for laptops out there, the only LVDS to eDP adapters are for standalone LCD testers. You would need to design and construct your own device and make it small enough to fit inside of your machine.

Unfortunately your only easy option for an upgrade of your laptop is a 1600 x 900 screen with a 40-pin connector, and it should be a direct swap.

There are 1080p 14" 40-pin LVDS screens in existence - but they are so rare - that we've never actually seen one.

    Good luck!

Thanks for saving me a ton of work! 1600 X 900 it is then.
