I'm planning on buying a Dell M3800 late this summer. A lot of the ones on eBay are 61w battery as opposed to the 91w; is there anyway to do an upgrade? And what SSD's are compatible if I bought one that didn't come with one?

    Thanks in advance!

There's been a lot of discussion of getting the 91WHr battery, and while people have posted part numbers (check the owner's review thread) it's not easy to get one out of Dell and nobody's provided a good third party provider.

As for SSDs, any full-length mSATA SSD should work in the mSATA slot (it will not take PCI-E SSDs, or M.2m, and half-length mSATA will work but requires a spacer.)

If you decide not to upgrade to the larger battery, there are some reports that people have shoehorned a 9.5mm thick 2.5" drive in there but it is built for a 7mm thick drive, and because of the mounting, going down to a 5mm (which is very uncommon) shouldn't be any problem.

I've got a 1TB Samsung 840 EVO mSATA + a 960gb Crucial M500 2.5" in mine, and absolutely LOVE having more storage than I need. Kind of expensive, though!

The first M3800 I had came with a 256GB mSATA SSD, the 2.5" drive and the small battery. Dell parts couldn't supply a battery, it had to come through support and they said they could only supply a "reconditioned" one, when it turned up it was (of course) brand new. In the UK at least the route seems to be to go through support, I had little trouble getting one out of them. As stated any mSATA SSD will work.
