    Hi,

    I am unable to format my laptop (vista home pre-installed) and tried to install with xp professional on vostro 1400. i am getting the error as "unable to identity drives to install" on the boot screen while formatting. Do anyone can help me to figure it out?

    You probably need to install the SATA drivers, when XP asks for additional drivers.

    Or you can turn off AHCI in your BIOS and install the AHCI drivers after your installation.
