I have a Latitude E6500 with Windows 7 Pro x64 installed. I'm trying to switch from ATA to AHCI but keep getting stuck when trying to install the Dell or Intel RST package. I get the message "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software." I have merged the registry file from post # 1 in this thread, but still can't install RST. Device manager says I have a Richo SD/MMC Host Controller, along with the Intel ICH9M/M-E ATA controller. What gives? Suggestions?

This is how I got AHCI working in XP 32bit on an E6500. First I installed Intel sata ich9m e/m drivers automaticly by running the Intel® Driver Update Utility
    Intel® Driver Update Utility

Then I installed Intel sata ich9m e/m AHCI drivers by downloading "Intel® RST Driver Files (for version 10.1) - F6 Install (32-bit) 10.1.0.1008"
    - extract to a folder; go to device manager and upgrade sata ich9m e/m drivers (2x) to sata ich9m e/m AHCI by directing to the folder,
    - ones you've upgraded the second driver you get a BSOD. go to bios and change ATA to AHCI
    - boot, one more driver will auto install, reboot: done.

I wrote a tool that can automate the process of creating the necessary registry file for switching to/from AHCI mode. The tool and explanation can be downloaded on my blog: Switch SATA Operation Mode

ECODEX - thanks for the post. But I'm still stuck. I am getting the "system not compliant" when I try to install the intel rapid storage software. Other tutorials say that its possible to install the storage software after you have changed the BIOS to AHCI but that gives me BSOD. Help, inifite loop! Any ideas here are much appreciated..

Three years old Dell E4300 with 160GB HD and Core 2 Duo processor. I wanted to upgrade to SSD. Samsung told me I will benefit by switching from IRRT to AHCI in Bios.
I downloaded Intel GM45 AHCI.zip file. I was unable to download Intel 8.2.2.1001 SATA driver application.
I created a restore point and went ahead to try my luck.
Now I am able to switch from IRRT to AHCI. I worked like magic. When I did this I had latest intel drivers on my laptop with Win 7 32bits.
May be latest intel drivers were adequate (instead of Intel 8.2.2.1001 SATA driver application). IT WORKED.
Now I will clone my HD using acronics and then use SSD to boost speed of my computer. My laptop booting time was about 60 seconds. Now with SSD installed it is 35 seconds. Good Luck.
