I am going to be connecting an external monitor, mouse, keyboard to my Vostro 1500 and was wondering if there is a way to turn it on without opening the lid?

    Thanks!

Put it in a docking station, the dock will have a power on button.

Or check for a BIOS option to wake up on applying external power (I know the E series has this option not sure if Vostro does)

I didn't think there was a docking station for the 1500?

You could just use the sleep function instead of powering off. Go to the power options and set it to do nothing when the lid is closed. Also, after you have your keyboard and mouse attached, set their properties to " allow this device to wake the computer from sleep". After doing that , you will very rarely need to open up the computer to turn it on.

Thanks all, changing the Bios to allow "wake on usb" and also the sleep settings seem to have done the trick.

Now, I have read where some have said that leaving the lid down could cause possible over heating and premature death. Any idea if this would be the case with the 1500? Any apps to monitor the internal temps?

    Thanks!

HWmonitor and I8kfanGUI are two applications with temperature monitoring.
