Im now finding out that i cant open up internet explorer without canceling it first before it loads everything up. If i do that then i can use the internet. Also im having a big time trouble trying to upgrade to XP SP2 also. Maybe i should just let the XP SP2 just sit there and just let it take its time inspecting my configurations on my HDD since i have such a bigger HDD now?

Upgrading to SP3 + IE 7 gets rid of that annoying IE error.

your right ofelas, i finally got the chance to upgrade everything and all my errors are gone and my laptop is working fine now. But my only problem (and its not a big one really) im having is that my laptop is only seeing 128 or so gigs of the full 250gigs of the HDD. To me its not a big deal, but how do i go about getting the remaining 130gigs of the hdd? I heard you can go into the disk management or something and do it there but i couldnt find it. Thanx for everyones help.

Which can't you find? Disk Management or the option to create another partition? I get to Disk Management by right-clicking on My computer and selecting Manage. Another route is Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.

Once in Disk Management, you should be able to right-click on the empty space on the HDD and then select format. If you can see the HDD but there is no empty space then that's a bigger challenge. Get the WD Data Lifeguard Tools, burn it to a CD and follow these instructions. I don't know, however, whether this will zap your existing partition with your new Windows installation or will just make another partition in the empty space.

It would be worthwhile trying the Lifeguard Tools to see what options it gives. It's not going to reformat the HDD when it loads. There will be a "Go" button when you have selected your options.

Thanks for pointing out the interposer. Today I received a new seagate momentus 2.5 IDE 160GB from newegg. I tried to replace my old (dead) toshiba 60GB in my 2005 latitude d505. At first, it didn't recognize the HDD. Then I came across this posting about interposer - I didn't notice this previously . I replaced the interposer from old hdd to the new one.. It worked. Thanks for your valuable postings !
