I really like my Latitude E6400 and have decided to buy another to use as my personal/home laptop. My current E6400 will be my dedicated "work-only" system.

I'm planning to buy from the Dell Outlet again and I'm considering the following specs (*-indicates specs I plan to upgrade after purchase):

    Windows Vista Home Basic*
    2.4GHz Intel C2D P8600
    1GB DDR2-800 RAM*
    14.1" WXGA+ (1440x900) LED
    80GB 5400rpm Hard Drive*
    Intel GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics
    Dell 1397-G wireless card*
    CD-RW
    Backlit Keyboard
    9-cell Battery

I'm planning to install Vista Home Premium 64-bit ($90), 4GB DDR2-800 RAM ($45) and a 320GB 7200rpm Hard Drive (already have). I'll also upgrade to the Intel 5100/5300AGN in the near future.

The biggest differences compared to my current system are-
Graphics- have the nVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M on existing nE6400, but I'm thinking the Intel 4500MHD will be fine for my needs.
Optical Drive- have DVD-RW now, but CD-RW will suffice (never burn DVDs); can always swap with DVD-RW in existing E6400
Battery- my current E6400 has the 6-cell and I don't the 9-cell for home/personal use, so I'll swap batteries and use the 9-cell for my work E6400! :D

Anything I'm not taking into account? I can get the system for under $700 from the Outlet and will spend about $140 upgrading, for a total of under $840. Seems cheaper than finding a system with similar specs (and the only way to get Vista Home Premium and/or 64-bit).

    That all makes sense.

However, even though you plan to upgrade the HDD, it might be worthwhile paying a few more $$$s to get 120GB or 160GB so it can be used as a backup device. That would depend on what comes up in the Outlet. You may find an E6400 with 4GB for only $20 more than with 1GB. The must-have parts are the display and the keyboard.
