Thinking of an E5530 for my (home user) Dad - any reason why not?

So my Dad asked me to find him a laptop. He said absolute max price was £800 - but knowing that he's not much of a computer user at all and will only use it for Skype, Web Browsing, Youtube and Spotify - I instinctively thought that was excessive.

I've often bought Dells in the past but have shied away from their consumer units.

I'm thinking of getting him quite E5530 from Dell Outlet - I'd want one with the 1080 display and webcam. From what I can see, he'd end up with a 3 year NBD warranty, a better built machine than the consumer units, with effectively no drawbacks?

    Am I missing anything?

I'm thinking of going for the cheapest processor I can see on outlet. I imagine he won't be doing much that really taxes it. What would you suggest about RAM? Is 8GB very desirable these days? Or from what I've siad do you think 4gb is enough?

    Any views appreciated :)

I would say, with the outlet coupon, don't use anything substantially over $500.

4gb is "enough" but I recommend 6gb. It's caching thing. Even with web and a few software, 4gb looks to be hitting limits.

Entry i5 should be good enough.

Overall, for basic users, don't spend too much on the first unit. Rather save up and get something else later.

I guess I'll look for 8gb systems if I can. Don't see many (any?) with a 6gb config.

    Any other views?

    Thanks!
