I have tried to search and I have gone through the M6400 owners thread but I haven't been able to work out if it is possible to switch out the lcd panels in this range of laptops.

I really want one of these machines, I'll openly admit that it's mainly for the aesthetics. I have an M4400 already but 4600/6400/6500 are so beautiful I have to have one. My M4400 has the 1920x1200 screen so now I am ruined - I can't possibly have a lower resolution, especially if moving up to a 17".

So I trawl ebay (I'm in the UK so the deals on the US dell outlet are cruelly unavailable to me) and I see lots with 1440x900 panels or similar. I can also find a 1920x1200 panel. Now, if I were manufacturing these things I'd have one single shell and just get the chap in the factory to plonk in whichever panel was needed. But I am aware that the M4400 has different sized lcd bezels, and maybe others do. Does it apply to the 'sexy' curved shell precisions?

I'll be very grateful if anyone can help.

I'm not sure about the screen swaps - but there are a steady stream of m4600 machines with full HD screens on Dell Outlet UK. Might be worth looking each day.

I have seen them. They're still a grand with VAT and shipping. Unfortunately that's a bit rich for me. Maybe I'm trying to live above my means heh. But it's heartbreaking to see them sell on ebay US for 7/800 bucks *cries*

Anyway thanks Jeff (assuming that is your name)

The M6600 can most definitely be swapped but you do have to stay with the 1920x1080 res. I miss my 1200 lines of resolution but otherwise I love it.
