The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022.     It is well-known resource hog although I believe that the 2009 version has been re-engineered and much improved.

    I've never used Symantec AV (if pre-installed then it is the first thing to be removed). I'm also now using NOD32 and have no complaints.

    I usually use either AVG or Avast. Currently using Avast Pro as they have a Windows Home server package that also protects up to 10 PCs.

    Symantec. Yeah, I would have bet lol...

    Agreed AVG is quite lite on resource and it has alwauys served me well.

    On another note, don't worry about svchost. Goggle it and you'll understand; it's only a host process to make call to Dll files and both XP and Vista make extensive use of this, especially at bootup. Since dll are libraries and are not executable you can see a lot of svchost instances running at once.

    I've had my nose glued to the resource monitor for the last 2 days trying to see why there were so many disk access in Vista and why my disk never spins down.
