Does anybody know the performance difference between Dell's 64 GB "Ultra-Performance" SSD and their 128 GB "Mobility" SSD?

In Canada, the 128 GB Mobility SSD is $589 extra, while the 64 GB Ultra-Performance SSD is $648 extra.

I would really like to know how much (if any) performance I would be sacrificing by going for the bigger (and cheaper) Mobility SSD.

    Thanks in advance.

I respectful disagree. The Samsung SLC and MLC drives have much fewer problems than the current generation of MLC drives. Despite having lower sequential read/writes, the Samsung SLC is built on a proven technology (SLC) and has good random read/writes, latency, power consumption, shock absorption, reliability, etc. If I had to choose I would pick the 64GB SLC drive, although if the option for the newer 256GB MLC drive were there, I might reconsider. By getting it at Dell, there is a chance you can get use coupons (such as 25% off), which would have a big reduction in price.

Personally, I still feel that SSDs are too expensive for the mainstream market, especially since I prefer around 256GB as my minimum for my needs in a laptop. Also, the move to MLC has its own share of problems that need to be addressed before I would embrace it such as reliability and SSD optimizations for software (most notably MS Outlook).

Yeah, stick with Dell for the SSD options. If you can live with the lower capacity, I would go with the Ultra 64GB drive that is SLC.

The SSD in dell e4200 is a 1.8" ssd without case. You can not find this kind of SSD anywhere now.

Actually, at the very least, you can find them on eBay. You could find them there for a while now, too. Just search for something like "Samsung 1.8 SSD"; there certainly aren't that many, but they're there.

Not sure if the OP is talking about an E4200 or a model with a 2.5" drive. The options are wide open with the larger form factor (including the X25E).

CW: As far as I know, there are no known naked :D Sammy drives that would custom fit in the E4200. I am still trying to figure out what the deal is but a standard drive in a case will most definitely not fit in the E4200. The info is both in the SSD and E4200 threads.

Wow--you are right. That's it. I had no idea. Thanks!

Not sure if this is what the OP needs though.
