I was trying to listen to some music on my Dell Vostro 1500 just a few minutes ago, and the sound was really low. Even turning the volume all the way up it wasn't as loud as it used to be, I really don't know exactly what could have caused this, but I do know that before I did this I installed the new A06 bios. Could Dell have applied a sound limiter of some sort? It's annoying, because I'm used to only having to put my volume around 4%. Now with it at that I can barely hear it in a quiet room.

    Dell Vostro 1500
    Bios A06 *New*
    Windows XP Pro
    2.5GB Memory
    1GB Intel TurboMemory *New*
    250GB 5400RPM HD
    256MB Nvidia GeForce 8600GT

If there might be anything that I could try, that would be really helpful. Also, is it possible to go back to the older bios I was using? The last one I had was A05.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do? this is pretty much my main computer right now and it's very annoying to have to lug around a set of speakers to get a reasonable amount of sound.

did you check both the volume mixer and the dell quickset buttons? one of them may have been reset. If this doesnt work.. im not sure what your problem may be.

Yeah, I had checked those. Thanks. :) Anyway, I managed to get the sound going at the normal volume again by simply uninstalling and reinstalling the audio drivers. I feel so dumb now. :p
