130 bucks for a 6-cell battery on my 1400? Ouch!

I'm not looking for one just yet but I was curious and looked it up. Are the prices still inflated after that factory fire or something?

If you buy from anyone but the manufacturer, you risk buying a non-genuine battery; these batteries come with all sorts of problems, such as not indicating charge, having high wear levels, or not working at all. Stick with genuine batteries.

On eBay you can find genuine Dell batteries for much cheaper than what Dell charges.

In the UK, I get my Dell spares from Black Cat PC. They are genuine Dell parts, boxed and brand new. No idea how they get them so cheap though.

My daughter needed a battery for her E1505. I searched the net, including Dell resellers, Dell parts suppliers, Amazon, ebay, and found lots of people that sell batteries. I read the reviews of many of these places and it was hit or miss. But then talking to people with "genuine Dell" batteries, their experiences are also hit or miss, so it didn't seem that the genuine Dell is any better than any other battery. Ultimately I found a seller on ebay with a LOT of good feedback, bought a battery, and I'll take my chances. That battery is doing fine after 6 months, which is better than the genuine Dell battery that came in my mother's Inspiron B130.

If I need a battery for my new E6500, I might look at it differently, but one thing I'll consider is the age of the computer at that point in time.
