So are there any really happy M6400 owners?

I spend a good 10-12 hours a day using the machine and love it too bits apart from the photoshop cs4 issue i have, i definitely feel that there needs to be another round of driver updates to sort out all the issues that are floating around. There is definitely some issues with the 3700m driver cause even slecting code in the flash cs4 -3 actionscript panel lags...

Just for the record, I'm thrilled with my m6400 - I use it all day long and never been happier with a laptop.

    X9100, 8GB, 320gb 7200rpm x2, 3700m, WXGA+ screen.

Nyceis, what apps do you use? I'm still trying to get a feel for what problems are machine specific, and what problems are across the board. I probably should have asked for configurations and apps used in the original post. Maybe this could turn into the feel-good happy M6400 post of the year, coming to theaters near you. (for those outside the U.S., that's how we get movies advertised to us: "The number one feel good movie of the summer: Happy Fluffy Bunnies II"

To those who have the CCFL screen, how does it look like?
Is it good, medium or crappy to your eyes?

I do software and web development, not 3D. I have not noticed any problems in any of the CS4 apps. I use VS2008 mostly which flies...

Well, Heres why I say its a non issue.
Im a sound engineer and am VERY picky about how things sound - esp music.
The thing is, if we want laptops to be this small, and have this much in them, well, that just doesnt leave much room to physically put in what it takes to make good sound. You have to have the means to physically move air to get good full sound and the little 1 inch drivers just placed where theres some empty space just doesnt cut it. Just like most of the little ipod speaker systems suck. I have tested many of them and most of them suck. There ARE a couple good ones and its cause of the quality of the drivers and that there are 4 of them in the one I like and the way the enclosure is designed that all contribute to the sound (mainly the low end). You just cant do this in the space thats left in a laptop like this. And I (though Im incredibly picky about sound), would rather the laptop be smaller than have an enclosure that would fit the "sub" thats in the 9100.

You can just output the sound to something better - and I work with many people that do audio work on laptops for professional means, and frankly, NO ONE even considers using the laptop speakers for anything. Its headphones (usually connected to a better audio interface and not the laptop itself), or external speaker systems.

I guess I just DONT know how its physically possible to design this laptop in this size with better internal speaker sound. And if people want that, something else would have to give - cause its not just a cost issue, its a physics issue.

Yeah, so true. There are other options for sure. But on the other hand, am I demanding too much if I want to use e.g. winamp for normal audio stuff? Hope that a better driver will come out soon.

And yeah, it's also time for a new quadro driver. Like in some other posting mentioned, 3d programs -especially 3dsmax - don't work like they should. Hope some Dell guy follows at least some of those threads. :)

And by the way. The mouse pointer has extreme annoying lagging. I guess that's a vista thingy. Any idea how to solve that problem?
