Hi all, I'm having a bit of a problem with my E6500. I bought it for college, and it worked fine in my dorm room, but when I brought it home, a process called SMManager.exe started taking up 50% of my CPU constantly. I've searched Google to no avail, and I was hoping someone on here would know if it's just a Dell utility, or if it's spyware. Thanks!

it does not look like Dell, google found some SIGMACOM Co.,Ltd... but there are lots of versions of this file around. what is its location and exact size? does it have some signature in the properties?

you can also upload the file to http://www.virustotal.com to get some basic idea if it's malware or if it's clean. then, use some proper antivirus and antispyware to scan your whole computer (virustotal can give you some general info, NOT a warranty that your computer is infected or not).

I don't have that process on my E6500 (also no sign of it in the registry or as a file on disk).

Hm.. it is located in C:\Program Files\Dell\Dell ControlPoint\Connection Manager.. and the company name under properties is Smith Micro Software Inc. I'm guessing it's part of ControlPoint, but I stopped ControlPoint from launching when windows starts a while ago. I just disabled it in the Services tab of msconfig, and I'll see if it does anything to my wireless.

I've un-installed DCP connection manager, so you shouldn't come to any harm by disabling it.
