My SD card reader has worked on and off since ive had this laptop. Sometimes i had to restart to get it to read the card.
It makes the ding-dong noise when i put the card in and out but now it never reads the card. No window pops up and no extra drive appears in My Computer.

I went to device manager and did a driver update check and they are up to date.

Any idea why its not working?

You can try downloading the chipset driver for your machine and re-install it.

Or, you might try deleting the SD host adapter and reboot to see if it will load the drivers--assuming that it is even showing in the device manager.

It could also be a defective card reader. I would try uninstalling the device and rebooting first.

Try in safe mode, try different cards, if that doesnt work call dell, the motherboard should be replaced.
