Just received my scratch & dent E6500 and I noticed that the LCD screen doesn't close completely on one end. There is barely a gap on the one side, while a gap relatively larger gap on the other edge. Also, either the chassis or the access panel is distorted as well, as the panel does not lay flush with the underside. Bah. There is a scratch on the lid which is likely the reason it was scratch/dent, which I am completely fine with... but I don't like there being structural problems as well. The customer service rep (who was really great btw) is having me ship it into the depot... hopefully it'll get taken care of! :)

    Overall the price was good I think... $850 for P9500, LED, 1x2gb, 80gb 7200RPM, 160M, 9-cell.

Thanks for the reply. Do you think it will be a replacement screen or replacement laptop? The more I use the laptop the more frustrated I get with it and the crackling audio. The rep is sending me a new wireless card, but I don't think that's the problem. For example when I change the screen brightness, it crackles. When I'm installing a program it crackles too. Bah.

It's up to you. They might push for a screen replacement, or if you're assertive they can do a full replacement because when you first receive the laptop, it's supposed to be sent in top condition. First time messups like that usually Dell gives full replacements, especially when the support guy acknowledges that as a new system it wasn't supposed to be like that, and that they are sorry, etc. etc.

Later on when you have the system for a while, they'll most like replace screens as its cheaper. They are just much more professional about it when the computer messes up on arrival or arrives messed up.

Thanks for the reply, however I think Dell might treat me as a different case since the laptop came from the Scratch and Dented department. I've decided I'm going to return the laptop though. After using it for about 2 hours I started to feel weird... I think it's something to do with the extremely blue-dominated LED panel, whereas I prefer a warmer tone. I'm back using my 2707WFP that has more red/pink to it, and I feel so much better... I don't know why, but I do. LOL.

Edit: Hopefully they don't charge me restocking! I feel really bad though that they are kinda losing money by shipping it to me and everything :(

They have very large contracts for their shipping needs, they don't lose money just for you ;), it's not a case-by-case pay for them like how we pay to have items delivered. It's more of paying a large amount yearly and getting their needs fulfilled. Or something like that lol.

Scratch and Dent usually means that there are little cosmetic issues.

If tech support is unwilling to fix or replace, speak to customer service (I recommend chat actually) and see if they will replace it.

If not, return it. Be aware though that you only have 21 days to return. Normally you will not be charged restocking for a defective product.

I've read a few times that people buy scratch and dent laptops and then end up getting a replacement when it is scratched and dented.

I have posted this a few times - but when I bought my 1420 it had a cracked case by the VGA port. Dell sent me a brand new replacement ... it was a referb originally.
