    Guys,

The ribbon cable on my D820 keyboard was snagged and ripped today and now I can't power on the laptop. Is there anyway to short a jumper to turn the laptop on or some other way to turn it on?? I figure there has to be a way to get the computer on... arg

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt you can fix that yourself. You should call Dell.

If available for test it might boot in a docking station, but the best bet is to call Dell.

You would need a new keyboard. If you're in warranty, then yes, contact Dell but if not, then get a new keyboard - it holds the power button.

Dell may ask you about how in the *&@^& did a keyboard cable get snagged and will probably tell you that it is not covered under warranty. ;) I had a bad DVD drive in my D820 and I had to call two different times and jump through hoops to get a replacement. Dell seems to have cracked down on sending out replacement parts without asking a lot of questions.

A replacement keyboard can be found on E-Bay, and other on-line stores such as this one that I have used for Dell 8000 Inspiron parts. Here is a keyboard: http://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=3746
