    Dear colleagues
Please can you advise: I have bought the above second hand but there is no OS as the hard drive was wiped and no disk came with it.
I would like to have a legal clean installation.
I tried to download using the microsoft website and the product key on the COA sticker that is present.
However the MS website doesnt allow a download on this as it said it was "pre-installed" and to contact the vendor.
Please can anyone advise about a download anywhere or advise on how to obtain a diskthat would allow me to put in the product key that comes with this laptop . The operating system is Win 7 pro - x15-53895
Your kind assistance in this would be much appreciated
    Thank you Ian

Where are you seeing this error? Are you seeing it on the MS website, or does it come up when you actually try and install Windows 7 and enter the product key? As far as I am aware, any ISO of the same version of Windows 7 will work to install it. You have to make sure that you get the same exact version though (i.e. Windows 7 Home or Pro, 32 or 64 bit. Yes, the architecture does matter because this is a OEM version install.)

Unfortunately Im not sure where to tell you to get a Win 7 Pro ISO. IT can be rather risky downloading an ISO from a third party site as you dont know if the ISO is clean or not.

Have you checked the Dell support site? For more recent Latitude notebooks it is possible to enter the service tag and download a Dell ISO recovery file for whatever OS was originally installed but I don't know if this facility also applies to the older notebooks. Perhaps not if they were shipped with a disc.

It used to be possible to download Windows 7 ISO files from Digital River but I think that stopped when the sale of Windows 7 was discontinued. Alternatively, what appear to be genuine Dell Windows 7 DVDs are available on ebay. If you don't have access to ebay then talk to a trustworthy local computer repair store.
