So there is no need to download Java Version 7 update 4 when doing a clean install of Windows 7?

Yes, I wouldn't recommend installing it because it often wants you to install updates and has plugins and services running that can slow down your computer. Besides, if you ever need it in the future, you can install it when you need it.

Watching what Windows Update throws at you is good advice. I just re-installed Windoes 7 x 64 on my my son's Inspiron 1750. I always get the latest chipset drivers from Intel's site when doing a clean install (if the computer is 3 to 4 years old). Windows Update kept popping up an update chipset driver that was older than the one that was installed. I finally just hit "Hide Update" so I will not see it anymore.
