Recommended DisplayPort to HDMI adapter for M4400?

Ok, I am having trouble now with a "generic" (read "cheap") DisplayPort to HDMI adapter that I have used for a few months with my Precision M4400. I was using it to connect the laptop to a Panasonic 50" plasma HDTV and it was working fine until recently.

After I updated my audio driver (of all things) from the Dell web site, it started to go wacky on me.

The symptom is...if I try to boot the laptop with the cheap DisplayPort adapter connected, the laptop goes into "la-la land", and I get the "num lock led blink" thing.

Then, I have to clear the CMOS memory in order to get the laptop back in working order. Yeah, it's WEIRD!!!!

I've done some searching through threads on here and found a few vague references to similar problems one other guy had in years past. It sounds like there is a "Pin 20" issue with some DisplayPort adapters?

So, what DisplayPort to HDMI adapter SHOULD I order?

Is there one that anyone else has used on an M4400 without any problems?

Did you check newer bios?

This is what I use "http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002CSRF9M/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00" and it's good.

Currently running BIOS A19....which one should I upgrade to?

And thanks for the pointer to the DP to HDMI cable. Good to know it works with Dell.

 

The most recent BIOS for the Precision M4400 is A27 (here). Like any BIOS update, do not shutoff your computer until you confirm the update has been completed.
