Why not the Dell D/Dock CD Drive? You should have one with the D430, and it is self-powered and fairly light!

Yes. I think that is just the Bay module...so you'll also need this DVDRW drive:

It is a little pricey, but IT DOES NOT NEED AN AC ADAPTER. It uses a Dell version of a USB port that provides enough power for it to work. The D430 has that larger USB port on the back of the machine.

Not really....they'll use about the same amount of power. And the LG just MIGHT need to use two USB ports if the D430 cannot output enough juice on a single USB port.

The D/Bay uses a slightly larger USB, sure, but you already have that on the D430 and you are guaranteed to get it to work with one port.

LG - Probably one cord, maybe two ports.
Dell - One cord, one port (check out my review)

What if I only wanted CDRW and read DVDs? Would I be able to find a smaller, lighter alternative?

The D/Bay CDRW/DVD might be lighter...I cannot find the information though...not yet at least.

You won't get much smaller than what you are seeing though.

That's a nice one. A bit expensive though.
