hmm... it appears that my thread did not get posted, connection error, or server/db error.

Good thing I saved what I posted:

"I've been going back and forth between the M4600 and the thinkpad W520. I'm pretty aware of the specs, offerings, and prices.

However, what I want to know from M4600 users is, are you happy with it? Has it been reliable, "trouble free", and overall good to you? Would you buy it again if you could do it all over...or are there known bugs/issues that Dell hasn't addressed with this model?

I skimmed through the M4600 owner's thread and of course I saw people posting issues and quirks but I'm not sure/well versed enough to know everything there is to it, as in, I'm assuming most of those posts are isolated issues(there's no "perfect" laptop, everyone pops up with some kind of freak problem).

I know the M4700 is on the verge of release but I rather have something that is "tried" and "true", plus there is no word on it's next form factor(is it going to be in the same enclosure or will they use a new body? etc.)

    Thanks in advance.

Yes I been very happy with my M4600, and all the precision laptops I have had in the past, they are for the most part a very well designed, and built laptop.

the nice bonus with the precision line is the standard 3 year next buisness day warranty, and better technical support.

As you can see in my sig, I have mine equipped with 3 drives, one Sata SSD main drive, one 120GB msata drive and a 750 GB drive in place of the CD ROM.

Last the laptop has a decent cooling system for the CPU and GPU, which is extremely important if your going to put them to good use.

I picked my M4600 up on Ebay for $800.00 as a refurbed unit. more than half the price for the same unit on Dell Canada. 9 and no issue transfering the warranty.

I've had m4400, m4500, and now m4600. I do like it and I'd recommend the m4600 to anyone. It's what I'm spec'ing out to all the folks that work for me and I've had nothing but positive feedback from them.

*** I do recommend swapping out the main HDD for an SSD though ** I played with a m4600 with a standard HDD and wow was it slow compared to my unit with SSD.

New M4600 owner and very happy. The support is outstanding. Bought the CompleteCare Accidental Damage Protection just in case as well. Add your own memory though, much cheaper. 32GB for $200 vs $1760 through Dell.

Yep I highly recommend it especially for the price you pay

Picked up this for $720 from Dell Outlet with 3 year warranty:
    2720QM
    Firepro m5950
    1920x1080p screen
    8 gb ram
    slot load dvdrw
    Intel n6300
    500 gb hard drive
    backlit kb
    finger print reader
    webcam
    bluetooth

Added the mydigitalssd msata 32 gb for $50 and windows loads in about 25 seconds. Also overclocked the m5950 to 850/1000 and got a 15 fps boost in most games. Also picked up the dock for $25 off ebay so I don't have to plug in 10 cables everytime I go somewhere.

Thanks for the input guys. Glad to hear your M4600's are holding up.

I write this from a thinkpad right now, I like them but I thought I'd switch it up, I've eyeballed the Precision series for quite some time. I like how they have magnesium alloy enclosures.

I would plan on going 32GB of ram with an SSD. I should've mentioned that I'd be running virtual systems and some server testing, among other stuff. Haha, I don't play D3, but I guess it's good to know that it can handle it.

I'm not disappointed by my M4600 - it really delivers.
Should you order through dell directly, you MUST get the "MiniCard" SSD - if you don't need a WWAN card for mobile 3G internet. This allows you to have a 120gig SSD for your OS and most applications AND a regular HDD for mass storage.
The Samsung SSD that dell sells is good and pretty cheap - and hard to find besides dell. Dell after-sale price for the msata SSD is 280 bucks.

However, here are a few points to be aware of:
    - the m4600 is quite thick and heavy. if you're out and about a lot, that might bother you.
    - sound playback suffers from occasional dropouts. If you do audio work, it might bother you. however, for playing videos/music it's ok and doesn't bother me.
-if you don't work in graphics or photo-retouching don't get the IPS display. The IPS display seems to have color shifts in the corners. That one does bother me the most and can't get fixed.
-the keyboard is GREAT. I like it a lot more than the thinkpads.
