Got a friend that has a brand new Vostro 1440 that came with 2gigs of DDR3 800/1066 Ram, and I think it's a single stick of Ram as in Dell built this laptop to only have one slot.

The Intel website says the mobo can handle 8gigs of Ram and that's what I'm looking to add to this laptop.

So, we we shop for Ram we just look for and 8gig stick of DDR3 Ram that is 800/1066?

Any leads to help me know exactly what type of Ram to buy would be helpful.

I used the Crucial scanner thingy and it claims the Vostro 1440 has two slot so they sell a Ram kit that is two 4 gig sticks.

I was watching a couple of videos about how to remove the keyboard to install Ram and I only saw one place to install Ram, not two.

    Is there two slots?

yes there are 2 slots, one under the other. technically you can put up to 16GB in. I have 6gb in my wife's machine.

Intel says my i7-920xm can't do more than 8GB, currently running a 4x4GB configuration without any issues, so it may or may not work. The XPS 1645 for one doesn't like a 2x8GB configuration so you may want to stick with a 2x4GB configuration.

cpu dependent Dell states 8GB max for Vostro 3450 and a lot of us run 16 GB

if it has i3, the 2x 8GB should work
