I tried installing the R206231 Firmware update from Dell for the Seagate drives listed on the support site and it would not complete. I get an error. I noticed that my firmware is DEA2. Is this a newer firmware than the fix is trying to update to? I noticed that the software is trying to upgrade to DE16.

    I own a ST9250421ASG in a E6400.

I just saw the same update. I have the same drive in my E6500, and will attempt the update later tonight, since it seems finding a CD-R to use is the easiest way to apply this. I'll reply back with how it worked for me.

Update: It looks like Dell released another version today. The new file is R206837. I'll try that later.

I got a black screen after reboot from DVD. Nothing happened, I waited for 10 minutes.

How do I use the new file? All I get when I run the self-extracter is a folder with a CD image of 1Mb which doesn't seem to do much when i burnt it onto CD and an executable file that doesn't seem to do much.

yeah still same here. The provided .iso file doesn't even contain any files. Whether i check by mounting it with daemon tools or burning it as image the discs are empty. Also just extracting the iso provides a empty folder. The option to create a bootable USB stick doesn't work either because the autoexec.bat file mentioned in the install instructions isn't found anywhere....did Dell just put a wrong file up or what?

    Hi.

You need to disable AHCI in the BIOS and then the HDD will be detected, but dont boot into your OS until you have turned AHCI back on.

    Regards

    John.

I haven't actually performed this update yet, though I hope to soon. However, I'm definitely not seeing the same issues as you. After running R206837.exe, I had 2 folders created under C:\Dell\Drivers\R206837: "Files" and "CD Image".

    Files contains "DE16.BAT", "DE16.lod", and "SF.EXE".

"CD Image" contains a "Seagate Utility.iso". Opening it with 7-Zip shows a "[BOOT]" folder, which contains a "Bootable_1.44M.img" file, which when also opened with 7-Zip contains the same above 3 files.

I don't see anything mentioned about the "autoexec.bat" file, but these images definitely aren't empty. Are you using the R206837 updated file?

Upgrade complete. I had been trying to make and use a bootable USB flash drive so I wouldn't have to waste a CD-R, but found a CD-RW to use instead.
