    Hi all, I am in the market to get one of the precision 7710'2. My wife has one and it's very nice. I am torn on the display to get. It seems in today's world I should get the 3840 x 2160 IGZO display, instead of a 1920 x 1080, yet I am wondering how well the scaling is these days in Window 10 Pro. Any opinions?

    Thanks!

    Scaling is okay mostly. I have had some quirks when I plug in or unplug an external display to my laptop. But I usually reboot at that time too, which fixes all that. There are some quirks though, for example... if I launch IE (not Edge) with external 2560x1440 display is attached, it display in perfect native scaling in the external. But when I drag it to my extended display (the laptop display) it keeps it's native scaling but at 4k resolution and it looks ant size. But if my laptop is not plugged into an external display then IE appears in perfect set scale to what I want on the laptop display (it is not ant sized). With some specific programs, Eclipse for example. It is an IDE I use it for C++ development. I have to use an XML manifest file to relegate correct scaling on it. Else it will look ant size too.
    here is the link that helped me fix that eclipse issue. https://jaxenter.com/netbeans/hidpi-with-eclipse-and-netbeans

    I've not tried manifest files previously on other programs, but mostly scaling is okay so I don't need to even try a manifest file. I have here two 7710 4k laptops, one for me and one for my business partner (my 71 yr old dad) and he is NOT adept to tech diagnostics if a laptop problem occurs. He can rewire a cray computer, but cannot deal with a laptop issue [he could if he really tried]. Yet he is loving his new laptop and as of yet hasn't complained about scaling. He knows the basics of how to adjust the scaling in Display Properties, and that is all he needs to know.

    I much prefer the 4k over my older 1920x1200 display. I would never like a 1080 unless I could use an external all of the time, I just need the real-estate, not that 1080 is bad.

    *edit:;
    depending on your wife eyesite, I recommend 175% which is about equivelant to 2560x1440

    or 200% - 250% scaling. Me and my Dad use 175% on both our laptops. But if I don't have my glasses on or nearby I switch to 250%

    *edit: I've learned that if I set my BIOS from fastboot to thorough then I don't scaling issues on the laptop display when I reboot after unplugging my external display.
