    Hi all,

could somebody comment on the quality of the E6400 touchpoint for me? I never thought I'd like touchpoints, however after having used on on a Lenovo the other day I found that I much prefer them to touchpads.

How do people find it on the new Latitude series?

    Thanks
    Michael

works fine, altho i hate touch points... i feel like im playing an old N64 game with a controller that suffers from floppy joystick syndrome.

the eraser-head is fine.. the touchpad, on the other hand, could use some improvement.

its fine, but can get a little slippery if ur hands are sweaty, so u need to press down on it more if ur hands are sweating

I liked the trackpoint on my old IBM Thinkpad more that the implementation on my Latitude E4300. The one on my Latitude occasionally freezes in place; something that I don't recall on my Thinkpad. I'm wondering if that has anything to do with PS/2 and USB implementations. Also the Latitude one somehow seems less precise and I'm overshooting a lot when I move across the screen.

Regardless, I still like it better than using a touchpad.

Lenovo's trackpoint is definitely more friendly to use than the ones on the Latitudes and Precisions. However, like ekincam said, I also prefer it much more than using a touchpad.

The trackpoint is fine. Quite responsive and once you get used ot it, I actually prefer it over the touchpad when I do not have a mouse.

The only problems are that occasionally, the touchpoint does tend to 'drift' on it's own. Pushing it hard in one direction tends to fix it.

I have the latest touchpad drivers installed.

The drifting is normal on all trackpoint implementations, be it IBM, Lenovo, or Dell. Although intuition is to move it in the opposite direction, let it go and it will self calibrate in about 1 second.

Touchpoints rock. Been using it ever since my Latitude D600 I got 5.5 years ago. As far as accuracy and overshooting goes, you can calibrate the sensitivity if you click on the touchpad icon in the system tray and go to "pointing stick settings". Also love that Dell finally added the middle button so we can scroll using the touchpoint. I probably have an 80/20 split on touchpoint/touchpad but thats probably a habit from having to use the touchpad to scroll on my old Latitude D630 and D600 before that.

i like it a lot, but double clicking with it kind of sucks...you have to tap it really hard sometimes
