hi well i bought this from the outlet a week ago and i already have a couple of problems.
1.my keyboard froze up one time, then another time my left click froze up, restarted and works but im not sure if its going to happen continuously or not. and when im typing it will randomly move somewhere else. like say im typing the cursor would move somewhere else and click so id have to reclick to continue typing, or it would tab by itself or like go back x amount of spaces.
2.cpu whine or some other noise that makes a eeeee pause eeeee pause eeeee
3.speakers are horrible the dell drivers arent loud at all and then wen i use vista drivers at max volume it like makes the sound a computer would do before a bsod but doesnt bsod. the kind of skipping/grinding sound dont really know how to explain it.
    4. also is it just me or is it like a heater next to the fan on the left when im gaming on the nvidio 160m, its not overclocked.

does anyone have fixes to any of these? or should i just send it in to get fixed, but i really dont want to be without my laptop for 2-3 weeks

    1) disable the touch point, it reacts to being "taped" like a touch pad does.
If you haven't installed the Dell Touch pad drivers, do this before continuing.
If you have, navigate to control panel>mouse>click the picture of the touchpad
once in the dell driver software, click device select>disable touch point and touch point buttons. once finished, press ok.
click touch pad, disable "tap to click" this should prevent the cursor from jumping while typing.

    2) that eeeeeee pause eeeeeee pause is a tricky one, it is often interference feeding back into the speakers. or one of the coiled iron components on the mother board.
Open the bottom panel and cover the ariel contacts with some electrical tape. if it persists Call dell and advise you are suffering from interference into the speakers. and ask for the mother board to be replaced, let them know if you are sending it in you want the problem fixed even if it takes a replacement of the secondary components.

If it comes back with the wine - it may be your HDD creating the interference, in this case back up your data and call them back for a replacement.

    3) laptops are not meant to play high quality sound, hi range, loud and tiny speakers are mutually exclusive goals - laptops in this size range are never known for their on board sound quality. there is simply not enough room to have high range speakers that will both fit and be cost effective.

3b) the sound you get is it like a prolonged squeak? - i have the same issue every now and then im working with dell now to isolate the problem. I'm under the impression drivers are the problem. im trying to isolate which driver produces the best results.

    4) The heat you are experiencing is obviously coming from the GPU which is last in line on the heat pipe from chipset>CPU>GPU>Radiator after i sort out issues with my system im going to try thermal paste and see if the system runs cooler as the current solution Dell uses is a kind of thermal Tape that might not provide optimal conductivity.
However playing games on the chip that was never designed to play games, you are always going to run into heat. having said that it should run within safe specifications.

The HDD can make interesting noises. What type of noise depends on the make and model. Which do you have?

Dell posted an updated audio driver + SRS premium audio control a few days back. This was for XP but Vista probably got the same treatment. The SRS control makes the audio slightly less bad but you will never get anything good out of the two little tweeters.
