    Hi Guys,

Previously my D620 is on T2200processor/2GbRam/40Gb HD/and other stock from Dell. Recently I have upgrade my processor to t7200 (used) , 2 x 2Gb RAM (new) and latest is WD1600BEVS (used) .

I am satisfied with the performance (i'm running on XP SP2) before upgrading the HD to WD1600BEVS. After formatted and installed Win XP to the new HD, it seems that my D620 run slow and under perform. I reinstalled the same XP with creating only 1 partition to the HD, still slow.

This morning I installed Win7 and still it perform slow like hell even though all the driver is installed correctly. When I run the PC index rating (right click My Computer>Properties) it says I have problem with my Hard Drive.

Is there a mechanical problem on the HD that makes it under perform??there is no awkward sound coming from it..no clicking sound or whatsoever.

What should I do to get it working perfectly fine?? I'm running on BIOS A10.

    Thanks for your help. Cheers

You should run diagnostics on the hard drive, a chkdsk at least and WD should have a diagnostic tool as well. Sounds to me like your HDD is faulty and on it's way out.

Shut the Laptop off completely. Then hold down the FN button and turn it on. This should bring you to the DELL Diagnostics. The Diagnostics will test your Hard Drive. If it passes the Short Test, you can then go ahead and try a more extensive test.

    guys,
thanks for the feedback..I did scan the hard disk using chkdsk and dell diagnostic.
chkdsk does not said anything..the scan was stuck at 11% at level 4 of 5 for 5hours..Dell diagnostic said my HDD has a damaged sector..
get back to the shop and he replaced it with other used HD with 6months warranty..addiitional rm20 ($ 6.6) makes the total cost of the HD is $33.3..
It is working fine now and hope it would last for next 10years..

    thanks again
