How many people have actually seen a 30% off Precisions coupon in the wild? :D Do these creatures exists?

I'm still bouncing between the 8730w and the M6400.

I'm guessing that at 4:30pm CST on New Years Eve I'm going to get about 3 views on this post :)

    3 views and a reply :)

I read this advice here before, am repeating a bit as well as sharing my experience.

The coupons are great but do not seem necessary.

If you can go through your company and if it has a large (medium or small) business account with Dell then I will bet you will receive atleast 30% if not more discount.
If this is for yourself and you are buying it for your own personal business (and the above doesn't work for you) then try to open a large (medium or small) business account with Dell. It is based on (I believe) company size/estimated # of computers to be bought. Try to get with the largest account type possible.
(you can use your name as the company name)

If none of those are available then you can just go with an online quote (or call a sales person), get a sales person and see how high in the chain they can go to get you a deal.

Tell them what you said here, you are choosing between the two systems and what remains is best price, whichever it is you will go with that system. Tell them you have heard of 30% coupons (I actually said 40% because I believed incorrectly they were available) and will need to see a considerable discount off the system before you buy.
I heard that it is best to wait a few days and then keep negotiating. Don't settle until the config/price is what you want.

That is my recommendation. I was able to get very much over the 30% (don't recall the amount) going through large business account. Others have been able to receive great deals as well (I have lurked on this board for a while :) )

For the most configuration possibilities configure through (for the US anyway) the Large business link, there you will find many options not shown elsewhere.
Send the link via email to the sales agent and go from there.

    Good luck with the discount...

    --- Bruce

yes, they dont check, you can use your name as a "company" to purchase thru small business. the only difference is, you have to sign and fax the quotation back to them to complete the order.

i got $722 (dint use coupon) off on my configuration (specs in signature)

HP also just launched an 18% off discount on the 8730w, looks like. It wasn't there two days ago.

Are all these discounts for US customers?
I can't find anything like that over here in Sydney, for either the Dell or the Hp 8730w.

    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Simon

I purchased my M6400 Covet and got a discount of just under $2,000 with a 30% off coupon. I spec'd on-line - under the large business division - and purchased from there. The only thing I was not able to get - based on the config - was the bluetooth (vista 64 downgraded to xp64) - so I ordered it separately with a 20% off coupon on accessories. The cupon I used was issued early November.

From what I can see - coupons on the precisions are few and far between. This is probably because they are typically small/med/large business machines - and these folks tend to have accounts with Dell - and they negotiate their prices directly with their reps.

PS - So far I love the machine - completely rebuilt OS with Vista Ultimate 64 from scratch and installed a Samsung 128GB SSD. 2nd drive is a 7200 250GB. This thing rocks. The RGB-LED E2E is amazing.
