Dell Canada shows the base price of the E4300 has increased from about $1,920 CDN to $2,140 CDN, or just over 10%. That seems very odd to me, given the general economic situation and the number of problems Dell has had with the E4300.

I was planning on redoing my business with E4300's, but now I am sitting on the fence, especially with this recent price increase.

The E4300 is on engineering hold for at least until mid March.

I would look out for an other laptop... Unfortunately there aren't very much real alternatives in the 13 inch range. Right now I'm looking for reviews of the Fujitsu Lifebook S6420. It has professional features like UMTS, second battery, optional on site support etc. Also the upcoming Sony VGN-Z31 could be an option, if they solved the problems with noisy fan, poor built quality, low battery life and bad support. The Lenovo X301 seems to be very sweet, but is very expensive.

how about the vaio SR? I know it around 4.2 lbs, but it will cost half as much.

what do you mean the e4300 is on hold?

Look at this thread and the linked thread at the official Dell forums. My account manager in Germany also told me that no E4300s are manufactured right now because there are some quality issues with the Intel CPUs. And as many people in different forums are writing that their orders are postponed until ~March 15th I think nobody will see a new E4300 anytime soon. And since last Monday the German Dell online store says that all E4300 orders will be 5 weeks late, due to "unexpected high demands", lol. Let's see when these 5 weeks are finally over.

And as to your VAIO SR suggestion: that model line really doesn't fulfill my need for quality. ;-)
