    Hello guys!
I'm running my systems on win8, and I tried to set up my old laptop with that OS too. Everything went fine, except for the GFX card..
I can't get any of them drivers installed.
I tried 64bit windows first, now I'm trying 32 bit.
I did set it in Test mode and downloaded both the Dell drivers, NVIDIA drivers.
It always says that the drivers aren't made for the current version of windows.
And with the x64, it also said that it needs x64 drivers instead of x86.
(I did use the x64 drivers).

If anybody can help me with this, it would be appreciated allot!
I would prefer x64, but x86 is fine too.
For the time being, I'll swap back to win7.

Conceivably the GPU is going out. When was the last time it was working properly?

    Thanks for the reply!
It still works fine with win7.
    I'm running dualboot atm, win8 and win7 (both x86)
It's a driver problem, but as the card is so old (6-7years), she's not supported anymore.
But on win7 I she performs good, windows system rate is on 5,9 and 5,8 for the GFX.
I can live with that for my laptop.
    But the win8 is on 2 :(

Try setting the installer to compatibility mode with Windows 7 and running it. Or, let it extract the files and just install the driver directly from the device manager by pointing it to where the files were extracted.

Even though the installer is blocking you from proceeding, chances are the drivers work fine. I've already set up several Windows 8 machines with Windows 7 graphics drivers (various NVIDIA and Intel cards) and haven't had any trouble. In fact, in a few cases I've had issues with the Intel card drivers included with Windows 8 and had to install an older Windows 7 driver to resolve them.

    I've tried both ways.
When I used win8 x64, it told me it were x86 drivers (but it were the XP x64 ones). Then I tried win8 x86, but it told me the drivers weren't suited for that version of windows.
I've googled quite some days, and saw that there should be a method with modded files? But can't find much details, especially not about the quadro FX2500m card. (I also would like to try the modded 7900 drivers, but can't even get the 'correct' ones to work.)
I usually can find a solution, but now I'm getting quite desperate, don't think I'll find something this time.
Another thing is the age of the card, it's not supported anymore.
The latest drivers are Vista ones I think (aged 2007?).
They should work, but they don't (at least not on my laptop).
The installer stopped and said that it will reboot and no changes were made, and there weren't any changes.

XP64 drivers won't work on Windows 8. Windows 8 requires WDDM drivers, which means you can only use those made for Vista and later.

Again, you may need to load them manually in the device manager if the installer blocks you.

I tried the Vista drivers manually in device manager, didn't work :(
Also, I can't find many drivers for the FX2500m. I thought I found a good one, but it didn't work.
And in win7 it finds one in windows update that works.

If there is a driver on Windows Update, you can download it to install manually from here (must be using IE to visit the site).

When you are in Windows 7, do you get the Aero graphics (or the option to enable it)? If not, your driver is not WDDM and it will still not work in Windows 8.

(Windows Vista and Windows 7 can load XP64 non-WDDM drivers... Even though WDDM has been around since Vista, they didn't start requiring it until Windows 8. In any case, Vista and 7 will not enable Aero without a WDDM driver so that is an easy way to check.)

You should be able to extract the Nvidia drivers but manually go into the Display Device driver and manually update the INF file targeting the extracted driver files.

    Hi vanhoucke!

I've had the same experience as you I'm afraid, wasted the best part of a day trying to get windows to see the old driver (which works in vista/7 64bit) as either a 64bit driver, or one that's compatible with the hardware and O/S.

I'm sure it's possible, but after wasting too much tome on what is essentially a spare laptop that I was going to give away, updated with windows 8, I took the view that the system doesn't allow for extra memory usage which would befit the need for windows 8 64 bit anyway, and so I reinstalled a 32bit O/S then upgraded again to 8. Drum roll please, the driver works (the last Dell one, think it's from 2008!)

If you get a fix, let me know and good luck, if not, the 32 bit O/S option is always there, product key is the same for 32 or 64 bit Windows 8.

    All the best,

    Paul
