I am trying to find out who the ODM ( original design manufacturer) is for these precision models, dell no longer sells them, perhaps there is another channel for buying one besides Dell???

If anyone has any information please let me know and also what model not just the ODM's name.

For example ALienware laptops are made by the ODM Clevo which also sells the same Chassis without the alienware bling and price under the name of Sager, Averatec also as I recall.

I know dell doesnt make ANY of it's laptops, they call come barebones from an ODM like clevo quanta or compal etc.

    ANY SPECIFICS would be welcomed.

    Thanks

Quanta, and you probably won't find them vended as any other brand.

Also, Clevo was one of Alienware's ODM. Currently it's Flextronics and Quanta (with motherboards for the notebooks designed by Asus).

So in the case of Alienware this probably spells lower build quality??? and what about Flextronics? I am not familiar with them do they have other OEM channels to their products if they are ALienwares new main squeeze??

Not really. Some of the Alienware M15x (the Quanta built model) have had issues with the hinges breaking off, but the M17x (the other Quanta model) didn't have that problem, or at least no M17x owner reported having such an issue.

Flextronics is actually a electronics contracting company that bought out Arima's server and notebook division. Arima was the ODM responsible for the Alienware M9700 and the M9750. Alienware's latest system, the M17 is an Arima built system after being bought by Flextronics. The particular chassis for the M17 was rebranded as the OCZ Whitebook (OCZ being the redistributor), which was sold by a handful of resellers. Currently, the OCZ Whitebook is discontinued, but the M17 is still being sold. Another redistributor is supposed to take OCZ's place with that particular chassis.

What are you looking to do? Do you need a motherboard or something or do you want the whole machine?

You can look at other DELL models such as M1710, Inspiron 9400.
