This is second unit I got (both were refurbished) - I fighted with uneven backlight on first one - after they replaced two LCDs issues with backlight were still there (and in the same spots)

Now I got completely different M7710 (I thought may be frame of first one was bent or soemthing) - but second one exhibits same issues. See picture below - on the left my old M6600 - pretty even backlight, on the right - M7710. Is this is something I just have to live with or this should be fixed by Dell?

    Thanks!

Mine is bleeding too but not much like yours, i think it's the common issue of the 7710 UHD Screen

It is difficult to convey in photographs because of color reflection and also my camera tries to adjust for lighting and focus giving inconsistent images each time I snap a picture.

I get some backlight, along the bottom edge on my 7710. Looks like it is caused from the display framing giving a pinched effect first photo is with display at half brightness. Second is at full display brightness. I can check our other 7710 tomorrow.

    sorry, I double posted.

Anyway, I would consider contacting dell for a replacement display if it is as noticeable in person as it is in your photos. But maybe it isn't as noticeable in person?

So I went through replacement of LCD twice at home, once - at depot. Also this on picture second refurb laptop I bought. I believe original owners returned it for the same reason...

Today we worked together with tech trying to debug that issue. It appears that at least on two laptops I had issue is with bezel pushing at LCD panel. They added thin strip of glue to keep everything tight and snug. We removed that glue in some areas and majority of issues gone (left top corner got perfect backlight. There are still some minor bleeds around edges, but 1) I can live with these and 2) I have an idea where to look now...

(if only LCD replacement they sent to tech did not had issues on its own, I would be happy m7710 owner today, scheduled another replacement sometimes next week :))

Its a product of the technology like burn-in is to CRTs. Still, as you've demostrated, some are better than others. If its really troublesome ask for a replacement (they should bring two) and you can choose the one that looks best.

Ahh, this issue... Happens when there's uneven pressure exerted on the LCD assembly itself, i.e. if you press on the edges of the LCD, it'll flex the multilayered assembly slightly, thus backlight bleed.
With a lot of screens, you can fix it by slightly loosening the screws on the LCD's frame, and then slowly add in shims (tape) onto the LCD until everything is snug again. It's extremely time consuming, so it's not really recommended.

Yeah, you are correct. In fact we (me with technician) were able to get decent results only later realizing there is other major defect which gets visible after awhile.. I returned second laptop as well. Will be waiting for M7720 in hopes they workout all the kinks with their LCD supplier next time.
