Precision M6700 Idle temperature

    Like how to detune your machine to keep you well within the safety zone? Apple is doing nothing special. They simply design a built-in limit on their machines just like a car's nanny computer to shut-down the engine if you push it too far.

    Besides, you're comparing a Honda Accord to a Corvette. Not to mention a company with a very limited product line to one with a product line across the entire price gamut. Your cheapest Mac cost $1000. That hardly seem like any bargain to me.

    Just a quick update from me...

    I did a thorough clean on the machine, dismantled and replace the dell heat sink compound with arctic silver 5. The two compounds are very different, the arctic silver is more liquid, but the dell stuff is harder like blue tac.

    Anyway, the temperature fell by +/- 4 degrees, which is good. However, after updating the BIOS from A06 to A13, the temperature drop is +/- 10 degrees. I guess Dell have optimized their processor throttling in some way. So its worth getting the BIOS update too.
