    i have a Dell M6600 with factory WD7500BPKT hard drive (sata 3Gb/s).

will the newer WD7500BPKX (sata 6Gb/s) work in this laptop..? if so any speed advantage..? i'm thinking of doing a fresh install of windows & keeping the older drive as a backup or 2nd internal drive.

    thanks in advance :)

It will work at SATA II speeds. The spec is backwards compatible.

There won't be any speed advantage... the drive itself is the bottleneck, not the SATA interface. If you really want a speed bump get an SSD.
